Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about public adjusters, insurance claims, and how KCC can help you get a fair settlement.

About Public Adjusters

What is a public adjuster?
A public adjuster is a licensed insurance professional who works exclusively for policyholders — not insurance companies. We inspect your property damage, document your losses, prepare your claim, and negotiate with your insurance company to get you the maximum settlement you're entitled to under your policy.
Is a public adjuster the same as an insurance adjuster?
No. An insurance adjuster works for the insurance company. A public adjuster works for you — the policyholder. There are also independent adjusters who work as contractors for insurance companies, but they're still representing the carrier's interests, not yours.
Do I need a public adjuster?
You don't always need one, but you should strongly consider it for any significant claim. If your claim involves major structural damage, multiple damage types, significant personal property loss, or if your insurance company is offering you less than you think is fair — a public adjuster will almost always recover more money than you'd get on your own.
Is using a public adjuster legal?
Absolutely. Public adjusters are licensed by the state and operate under Ohio Department of Insurance regulations. Working with a public adjuster is completely legal and actually encouraged by consumer protection advocates.

Fees & Payment

How much does a public adjuster cost?
KCC works on a contingency fee basis — we only get paid when you get paid. Our fee is a percentage of the final insurance settlement, agreed upon before we begin. There are no upfront costs, no hourly rates, and no fees if we don't recover money for you.
Is the contingency fee worth it?
In nearly every case, yes. Studies by OPPAGA (Florida's Office of Program Policy Analysis & Government Accountability) and other organizations consistently show that policyholders who hire public adjusters receive significantly higher settlements — often 3-5x more — than those who don't. Even after our fee, you almost always end up with more money.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. Our fee structure is transparent and agreed upon in writing before we begin. You'll know exactly what our percentage is and when it's paid. We don't charge for the initial consultation, and we don't charge anything if we can't help you.

The Claims Process

When should I hire a public adjuster?
As soon as you have a significant property damage claim. The earlier we get involved, the better we can document your damage before repairs begin and before evidence is lost. However, we can also help if you've already filed a claim or even if your claim has been closed.
Can I hire a public adjuster after my claim is already filed?
Yes. Even if you've filed a claim, received an offer, or even signed a partial settlement, we may still be able to help. We can review what was offered, identify what was missed or underpaid, and reopen the claim or file a supplemental claim.
How long does the claims process take?
It varies by claim complexity and your insurance company's responsiveness. Simple claims might resolve in a few weeks. Complex claims — particularly those involving significant structural damage or dispute — can take months. We keep you informed throughout the process.
Will my insurance company be upset if I hire a public adjuster?
Insurance companies are accustomed to working with public adjusters. It's a completely standard part of the claims process. Some adjusters may seem annoyed, but they cannot treat your claim differently or deny it because you hired representation.
Will hiring a public adjuster slow down my claim?
No — in most cases, it actually speeds things up. We know exactly what documentation is needed and we move quickly to get it. We also prevent delays that happen when claims are incomplete or need to be supplemented later.

Coverage & Claim Types

What types of claims do you handle?
We handle all residential and commercial property damage claims including tornado damage, wind and hail damage, fire and smoke damage, water and flood damage, burst pipe damage, sewer backup, and more. If it's a property damage claim in Ohio, we can help.
Do you work with all insurance companies?
Yes. We work with all major insurance carriers operating in Ohio including State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide, Erie, Farmers, Liberty Mutual, and all others. We know every carrier's process and tactics.
What if my claim was already denied?
A denial is not always the final word. We can review your denial, identify grounds for appeal, and help you file a formal dispute. Insurance companies sometimes deny claims incorrectly or with insufficient investigation. We know how to push back.
Can you help with commercial property claims?
Yes. We handle both residential and commercial property claims. Commercial claims are often more complex, with business interruption coverage, equipment losses, and larger structural damage — all areas where our expertise makes a significant difference.
